How do you see the speed of the transition from fossil to fossil-free fuels and what could accelerate the pace?
There are many types of fossil-free fuels and very many areas of use such as vehicles, shipping, industry, etc. In the industries I work in; shipping and industry, it can generally be said that the technology is available for a very rapid transition. As I see it, it's mostly about how much resources we as a collective put into moving forward. In order to accelerate, we need to create the opportunity to quickly scale up the production of green hydrogen. To create green hydrogen, we need large-scale production of fossil-free electricity from wind, solar and hydropower. There are huge amounts of fossil-free electricity that will be needed, not just fossil-free fuels but lots of other products, which makes this key.
What major obstacles do you see in the future for this transition?
There are many bottlenecks that slow down development. Bureaucracy for e.g. permits for wind farms and other things while we see a great lack of skills in the areas where we need to invest a lot of resources. I believe that the skills shortage in industry, where we can make the biggest difference quickly, is one of our biggest challenges right now. However, it is worth remembering that humans are and have been extremely adaptable and "quick" to meet challenges throughout history and I am sure we will solve this too.
How do you see INDUSTRY 4.0? The fourth industrial revolution?
In some aspects, it can feel scary that everything will be connected and that everything will be more or less monitored and also controllable "remotely". At the same time, it is very exciting to live and work, not least as a leader, in a time like this. The world is accelerating at a tremendous pace where knowledge and skills are the key to success.
