Inspirer of the week - Maria Kjellson

Maria, you often say "you don't want to die curious"; how does it show in your professional career that you dare to try new things, dare to try?

I have resigned several times and have not had new jobs both because I felt finished and wanted to try something new. My motto is that you should have fun at work and that you do not want to die curious. I am also not a manager, but want to constantly develop. I took my biggest "step" in 2021 when I bought another warehouse - Havets Magasin - as a complement to my previous one - Hampholmen - which I had for 15 years but more as a "hobby" as I have always also had a "real job". I then chose to invest entirely in my own business, something I have not regretted for a day even though it is not always a dance on roses.

You have chosen to work in the tourism industry and with a clear focus on Bohuslän; why is that?

The choice is easy as I am a "Bohuslander" in heart and soul! I grew up in Hunnebostrand and with various debaucheries, today I live on Smögen and love everything that has to do with the sea. Both the salty baths, the fresh seafood and all the activities on offer. I want to share this with others through my activities.

What drives you and what you do?

Many years ago I was at a lecture with Yngve Bergqvist, the founder of the ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi. He said - "dig where you stand". That's something I've carried with me - to develop what's typical and genuine for the area and not complicate it. So, in addition to my seaside businesses, the packages and activities I offer are strongly linked to the sea. Everything from seafood safaris to kayaking and winter swimming. And of course the food with fresh seafood and fish. My goal is to deliver good hospitality and have satisfied guests. I want the guests to leave with a smile on their faces and with the feeling that they want to come back. And not least, I like to do business!
